Model Number: GBS22HBPACC Brand: -brand- Age: 5 - 10 years
My fridge/freezer is having the same problem many others seem to be having: fresh food compartment too warm and evaporator coils are frosted over. I defrosted the coils with a hair dryer and 3-4 weeks later same problem recurred. Defrosted again but now I suspect some part of the defrost system isn't working and expect to see the same result again if the problem isn't identified and fixed.
I was hoping to get some advice specific to my freezer model. Sorry if this info has been posted elsewhere - I read the first page of the sticky thread on this subject but didn't go through all 100+ pages of posts. I also searched the thread for my model number and didn't find it so I thought I would create a new topic. (I also posted on that thread but wasn't getting any replies...) I think I understand most of the problem (in general terms) and some of the various things to test, but wanted to be corrected if I am mistaken. Also would like to know what numbers I should be seeing (if known) when I check various components with a multimeter. My fridge make/model number is GE GBS22HBPACC. (Note that this model doesn't have a digital freezer & fresh food temp control - it has numbered dials). If I understand things correctly, the problem may be in either the heating element itself, the thermodisc, the thermistor, or the the main control board. One thing I'm a little confused about is what exactly do the thermodisc and thermistor do? Also, how do I test the items I listed above and determine which of them is the problem? What values should I be seeing when I test for continuity with a multimeter? Let me know if you need more detail/info and I'll do what I can. Thanks, -Tim Ads By Google Related Models |

Hi.
Assuming that the evaporator fan is running and the evaporator is frosted over take the main control board cover off (located at the back of the frige). Unplug the unit, remove the plug from J9. Using the multimeter check the continuity between J9 wire and J7 - 9pin. You should read at least 22 Ohms. If the resistance OK - replace the main control board and the freezer thermistor. The control board Part number: WR55X10942 The thermistor Part number: WR55X10025 If the circuit is open - you will have to check the defrost heater and the thermodisc, clipped to the side of the evaporator. Remember - thermodisc must be ice cold when tested. Replace the bad part. The defrost heater Part number: WR50X10042 The thermodisc Part number: WR50X10047 Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for General Electric GBS22HBPACC Refrigerator | AppliancePartsPros.com Thank you. Post the results. Simon.
