Model Number: ARB2217CC1 Brand: Amana Age: 5 - 10 years
This refrigerator stopped cooling all of a sudden the other day. Freezer was totally defrosted and refrigerator area not cooling. Air is blowing in both compartments. I took back panel off and found;
1) Fan is running 2) Compressor is not running 3) Overload relay/run capacitor clicks, then compressor starts to make a little humming noise and then relay/run capacitor clicks again and then nothing from compressor. Ads By Google Related Models |

Original: 5SP04T419PFM 01 H03R Replacement: 5SP14M419PF 29 Z11R The original has two male terminals on the back that are the same size and get connected by one snap on terminal from the wire harness. The replacement has two different sized male terminals that are in different locations and would require splitting the original wire harness and adding new sized connectors before being able to make the connections. Is this what I need to do or is there another switch that has the correct terminals on it for my application? |

If the original start device is not identical to the new one, you will have problems installing it. If so, call the parts site and explain the problem.
Post results.

I called them as soon as I noticed the parts were different and was told that there were different manufacturers for that refrigerator and I would have to go to the website for installation assistance. Isn't there a switch made that will fit in the same manner as the original one?

If the new start device is a large box, it has three round pins to plug it in the compressor and four terminals on the other end. Two terminals for the run capacitor and two for the compressor, one going to the internal overload klixon and the other to the internal ptc device. If so, just plug in the run capacitor and change the two wires from the fridg plug to mating spade terminals to plug in the mating device terminals, polarity is not important.
