[Terry's fridge]

The GE Profile fridge model is a french door, bottom freezer style.


It makes an intermittant knocking noise. It seems to be coming from the inside of the fridge behind the dampner assy (closer to the bottom of the dampner assy).


I've done this a several times without fail: when the knocking noise starts, I open one of the fridges doors the knocking then stops. As soon as I close the door, it starts knocking again.


I also noticed that the freezer and fridge temperature readings are not normal: the freezer is -14 degrees (should be at 0 degrees) and the fridge is at 40 degrees (should be at 37 degrees). Whenever I adjustment the freezer temperature to 0 degrees it will readjust the temperature temporarily but returns back to a very cold reading (always below -10 degrees).

The part that you need to look at is called "dampner control".It's basically the air gate.It is broken in closed position and the sound that you are hearing is the motor laboring to open the gate.
