I have a Maytag side by side refridgerator w/ a failed compressor. The fridge is 5 years old and was $2400 when originally purchased. Called a few local appliance repair shops and I recieved little interest in replacing the compressor. I have an automotive HVAC liscence and 15+ years experience working w/ automotive R12 / R134 systems - I thought why not try and complete the repairs myself. I have automotive 134 gauges, vacuum pump, refridgerant etc. What I know thus far - I will need a compressor, drier, proper solder, heat paste, add-a-port, swaging tool ? proper charge quantity info... I am basically looking for pointers in making this proceess as smooth as possible ? My local appliance parts house has some items like solder, paste but few specialty tools. I have Maytag's service manual for some referance. The manual say's the serial plate should list refridgerant quantity - couldn't find ??? Thanks for any advise.
