Default Kitchen Aid Door doesn't close by itself
Model Number: ksrg25fkss17   Brand: Kitchen Aid   Age: 1 - 5 years

Hello,
Thanks in advance for any assistance. The other day I moved my Kitchen Aid refrigerator to clean behind it. Model # ksrg25fkss17. I adjusted to level also. After shuffling it around I opened the door and out fell a piece of threaded rod maybe an inch and a half long x 1/8 in in diameter. Not sure. But where did it come from? I like my appliances to have all their parts. I have noticed the refrigerator door now does not close by itself like it used to. It now stays open and I need to make sure I close it behind me. Very annoying. It used to swing back by itself if you walked away. Maybe I just changed the level screws too much? Thanks again.

Hello Mr. GreenHorn,

You might take a look at the lower closure/cam part numbers AP3046922 and AP2979611 located on the bottom hinge below the freshfood door. They are common for wear and cracking due to normal use. The freshfood more often than the freezer because it is opened frequently.
To get access to them:
1. Start by removing the top cap covering the hinge at the top of the door
2. Remove the screws holding the top hinge
3. Lift the door up and off
4. Inspect the cam/closure and hinge

The cam/closures are held to the hinge and the underside of the door by screws.

To install them:
1. Screw the cam/closure to the bottom hinge first so you can know which direction the one attached to the door should be. ( The teeth of both cam/closures should match vertical from each other )
2. Reinstall the door back onto the bottom hinge and be sure both cam/closures match up before adding the top hinge.
3. With the door closed put the top hinge back on.
4. Put the top hinge screws in but do not tighten them untill you have the door adjusted properly. ( The door will not close properly if misaligned so it may take a few times losening and tightening the screws )

If the door closes but will not close by itself you may have to adjust the front legs to elevate the front. Please reply if you have any further questions.
