The icemaker was not activating the water supply but would produce ice if the water was added manually until three days ago. I replaced the water supply valve and the ice water dispenser, which had not operated for months, started working, but the icemaker will still not not dispense the ice and call for water.
Is there a way to force the icemaker to dispense the ice? I don't mind buying and installing a new icemaker, but I want to be pretty sure that it is the problem.

Pturner, Your ice maker should be a basic heat "release" unit, that has been popular for numerous years. Part number: AP4135008
To test run the icemaker, you'll need a 3 or 4 inch length of 12 or 14 gauge insulated wire. You'll need to remove 1/2 to 3/4 inch of insulation off both ends of the wire. Open the freezer door and tape the light switch down. Remove the white plastic mechanism cover. In the lower right corner of the assembly, you'll find two openings labeled "T" and "H". Insert one end of the wire into each of the holes and make sure the end contacts the internal terminals of the control. Hold the ends in the openings until the "Main" gear starts to rotate, then remove the wire. The icemaker should conduct a complete cycle from start to finish, in a couple of minutes. When the "rake" arm reaches and presses on the cubes in the mold, you should be able to place your hand near the bottom of the mold, and feel the warmth of the heater, if it is working properly, and loosening the cubes. Good Luck and Thanks

Pturner, Great, you'll have it diagnosed and repaired in no time.
Drop us a line when you're done, and let us know how it went.
Good Luck,
