The other day it sounded like the refrigerator/freezer was trying to "start". You could hear a buzzing noise that lasted about 10 seconds then a click and it stopped. It was doing this every few minutes.

Got home today and the freezer was thawed but the fridge seemed ok. I'm thinking the fridge may be getting warm now to but can't confirm.

Unplugged and plugged back in. Changed the settings up and down. Some of the simple things I read about.

Actually cleaned the coils and everything a few months back and it still looks pretty good.

Trying to locate the defrost components but haven't found the diagrams yet.

The fact that the things sounds like it wants to start then doesn't has me worried a bit that it could be a major issue - compressor maybe but hopefully not.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi,

Could be a bad compressor, but chances are all you need to do is replace the start relay for the compressor. It's mounted on the side of the compressor.

Update on current situation.

Been doing some more research and the fan is running but the compressor is not. Pulled the relay off and checked the compressor by grounding the meter probe to the compressor and checking each terminal.

No short.

Now with the relay off - it appears to be a solid state unit with some kind of two terminal transformer attached.

Looking for way to check these.

Thanks

Jerry

Can I check the relay? and what is the rectangular thing attached to it?

Do you know?

If it is the relay can I hard start it and let it run tonight untill I get a new one?

Kind of risky??

Thanks

Hi.

Most likely you need a new start devise. The black box attached to it is the run capacitor. Don't attempt to "mickey mouse" with the compressor. Just have a big party.

The start devise Part number: 67005560
Part number: 67005560

Good luck. Post the results.

Simon.
