ice maker wont dump unless i fiddle with it

Model Number: 106.515691102 Brand: Kenmore Age: 5 - 10 years

My ice maker will fill and freeze cubes but it does not seem to dump automatically if i open the freezer door and hold the service door open and hold the flapper door over the infrared emmiter then let go and close the freezer door it will dump ice then fill and i must repeat every 2-3 hrs.
