Default Amana Side by Side Refrigerator Freezer MFG. P1317202WE
Model Number: SBDE21VPSE   Brand: Amana   Age: 5 - 10 years

My freezer and refrigerator have become warm on two occasions. I removed the panel at the back of the freezer and found that the evaporator fan was not running even though the compressor and compressor fan were running. The fan blows cold air to cool the refrigerator as well as keep the freezer side at a freezing temperature. There is a round piece of metal (looks like a plug nickle) visible with the panel on which must be some kind of thermostat that has two wires running to the evaporator fan. I straight wired these wires together and now the evaporator fan runs constantly so the freezer is getting extra cold. What parts do I need to fix this so the evaporator runs at the proper times to keep the freezer freezing and the refrigerator cool? Is the defrost timer stuck?

The unit has Touchmatic Electronic Controls (front of door)

Thanks for your time.

Joe
