I have a GE mod GBS22HCPACC, Serial # ZF041097. Refrigerator was running warm and freezer was cold, though not as cold as it should be. I removed panel to get to evaporator and defrosted it, checked continuity through defrost terminator(thermostat) and heater when all warm. Had continuity. Though defrost terminator was closed I didn't see how this would keep defrost from occurring if control panel timer called for defrost cycle. Compressor should still cut off.

Reinstalled everything and a week or so later it was frosted up again, so defrosted again and ordered a new control board. After another week or so and control board had arrived, evaporator was again frosted. I defrosted and installed new control board thinking my problems would be solved. But after another week to 10 days the evaporator is again frosted. (( Instructions with the new control board ---- the wire to #2 pin from thermistor should be cut for all bottom freezers----Encoder Models with Serial # prefix TD,VD,ZD, AF,DF,FF,GF,HF ,LF, MF,RF AND SF. )) The serial # of my unit didn't apply, but my UNIT IS A BOTTOM FREEZER so I cut the wire to Pin #2 on the thermistor as the instructions depicted in the drawing. Still having problem of evaporator frosting up. Assuming new control panel is not defective should I have not cut the wire to pin #2 or do you think the problem is with defrost terminator/heater?

Most likely the problem is a bad evaporator thermistor (on top of the evaporator). When replacing the thermistor, cut the thermistor wires and splice the new thermistor using bell connectors. Always use RTV102 silicone sealant to seal the end of the connector from moister. Use a new tie strap to secure the thermistor to the evaporator tubing.

- The thermistor Part number: AP3185407
Part number: AP3185407

- The silicone sealant Part number: RTV102
Part number: RTV102

- The bell connectors Part number: AP3440595
Part number: AP3440595
