In replacing the defrost switch the new unit has fewer terminals then the old one.
The new part number is WPL 482493 description Timer-def

The loose black wire on the switch was placed on termianl 1 of the unit.

However the refrig has a green wire that was attached to a terminal on the side of the OLD switch --- What do I do with it?

Your new defrost timer does not need this ground wire. Also, mark the new defrost timer knob and make sure the timer advances, you may have misswired it.
