Model Number: SXS-22 Dispener Brand: GE Age: 5 - 10 years
I am at a loss of what to do here.... all of a sudden 3 days ago I go in my freezer to get some ice cream and the ice cream is really soft and half melted... I looked at the thermometer dials in the fridge part and they were fine, I thought I may have bumped them ... they are fine.. I turned them up a bit and waited a day. ice cream is still soft....
there is no frost There is no leaks I pulled it out, unplugged and swept what lint and dust was in the back of it,, there was some lint on the little fan but it WAS and IS moving ... the only other thing I can get to to dust off is the big black thing I am guessing the compresser?? The rest of everything is up and cannot be accessed. there is not even a panel to take off. the only thing accessible is at the very bottom about a 6 inch area all the way across... ... I plugged it back in and waited a day.... Ice cream is still melted... I went in the freezer pulled out the Ice maker tray.. the air blows from behind it.. I left it off and pulled everything out of freezer and rearranged.... the meat in there is still frozen the ice cubes in the trays are solid not even watery its like its getting cold just NOT cold enough same with the fridge.. its a side by side the things in the fridge seem cold but they were colder The fan on the back is blowing cold air OUT lol.. when i pull the fridge out and bend down there its real cool air blowing in my face.. is this normal ?? I never noticed such a cool draft coming from the back of the fridge before .... I am at a loss.. can anyone tell me what they think it might be? should I just get a new one? I cannot work on it if it needs something major (I could prob figure out something easy) and repairs could cost more than a good used one.. what do you think ? I hate to go spend 200$ on a good used one if it might be a small 20$ part that I can fix myself or something... AngelJ, First thing, Unplug the power cord and clean the condenser coil especially the inside coils(it's usually located to the right of the compressor and condenser fan motor.
Get an accurate chef's pocket thermometer Part number: AP3440446 Wash off the probe and stab it into a bag of frozen vegetables or juice, etc. The temperature should range between 0 and 3 dgrs.F. Do the same thing in the refrigerator (pickle jar, soda, etc.) the temperature should range between 37 and 40 dgrs. If neessary, reset the controls( 2 dgrs. per setting) and wait 24 hours before another adjustment, if necessary. The issue could be the ice cream. or the position of the package in the freezer. Low fat and sugar content in ice cream, can cause a freezing/solid issue. Try that and let us know what happens in a few days.
