So the fridge started making this noise from the compressor that sounds like someone being electracuted in a movie. The noise is intermitent. Sometimes it lasts for a second, and sometimes it'll last for 10 seconds. not much more than that. The fan next to the compressor is'nt running, and when I try to spin the blades it's pretty hard. I just changede the blower unit that it's inside the freeze compartment last month.

Any ideas anyone?

Hi,

The fan that is located next to the compressor should run when ever the compressor is running. When it's not running you should be able to spin it freely by hand.

So it sounds as if you need a new fan and as for the compressor it may have over heated if the fan quit running.

The only way to fix any noise coming from inside the compressor would be to replace it.

I have seen a number of compressor make funny noises over the years and they just keep on running, so it's hard to say if it's on the way out or not.

it's starting to make sense now.

The hoses on the back of the fridge have been breaking recently.
First at one spot then a few weeks later on another.

At one time when I pulled the back cover off, the fan felt like it was a little hard to turn but I never thought about it.

So the Fan was probably ceased. That basically cooked the water lines, made them brittle, and that's why they were cracking.
AND
that's probably why the compressor finally knocked off.

Your conclusion is absolutely right. The faulty condenser fan motor caused the compressor to overheat. If it was in such condition for relatively long time, the temperature in the machine compartment was much higher than it suppose to be, causing damage to the water tubes and the compressor.

If the compressor still works, besides that noise, then that damage is not critical yet and it will do its job with the new fan motor. As AJ said, it can last a few more years with such noises.
