I replaced the evaporator fan motor due to excessive noise. frig would not shut off after this, however freezer temp is 4degrees and frig temp is 36-40 degrees and fresh food bins temps are well below 32 degrees. i replaced the frig thermostat, same problem , frig wont shut off . please advise.

Is the evaporator fan blade turning the right way? It is shaped to cup the air and blow it away from the motor and into the fridg and freezer sections.

how do i reverse the blades direction?

Either replace the blade with the correct one, or take the motor apart, if possible, and reverse the armature.

i was able to change the fan blades direction as recommended, however the frig still stayed on even after reaching 39degrees on top shelf and 21 degrees inside the bottom fresh food bins. the freezer temp is 4 degrees. the frig has run in excess of 18 hours without stopping since making the change of the evaporator fans direction of flow. what else could keep the compressor on continually?

Remove the lower crisper drawers and push in the door switch if needed to start the fan. If cold air is blowing out the lower vent, you have the air flow reversed, must have mounted the fan motor upside down!!

at this point i have had the fan orienated both directions of flow. i saw in the schematic that there is a contact in the defrost timer that must be made for the compressor to work. is that a possibility?

The evaporator fan motor must blow cold air from the freezer into the upper
vent in the refrigerator so the cold control gets cold air directly from the freezer. If not, the fridg will never shut down.

thanks for your input rich. stiil the same situation, frig wont cut off. it is a side by side. i have tried all that you suggested. like i mentioned before i have reversed the evap fan direction with the frig still not cutting off. any thing else to look for?

Verify the cold control will turn off the compressor. If so, that's probably ok, then measure the stabilized freezer temperature and post.
