Default Need Defrost Timer install help
Model Number: KTRS20KXWH20   Brand: Kitchen Aid   Age: More than 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com
I ordered and received a defrost timer kit # 482493
The instruction sheet gives 3 different wiring schematics to match up to in order to detirmine what terminal to place the Timer Motor Lead on. The lead comes out of the side of the timer unit. The schematic on my refridge/freezer is mostly gone and is of no help. Also, the timer that I am replacing has no Timer Motor Lead coming out of the side of the case like the replacement unit has. Can someone look up the needed info and tell me how to proceed?
Thank you much.

I think if you read the paper work that came with the timer, you will see where the directions talk about a RED wire in the harness going to the timer. If yours has a red wire, connect the loose wire to the #2 terminal on the timer!!!! and plug it back in.

Thank you for your response. But still having a problem.
I went to the connector on the timer. There doesn't seem to be a Red wire. Here are the assignments....
1-Black
2-Pink
3-Deep pink(not obviously Red)
4=-Orange

So, I still attached the loose wire to #2...here are the results
After 8 hours the compressor shuts off....no melt.... compressor goes on....about one hour later the compressor shuts of again....after 30 minutes with no compressor restart.... I manually moved the timer dial to restart the compressor. I then forced a defrost cycle.......no melt and no compressor restart. I turned the dial again to restart compressor.

I can send you a photo of the timer with the wiring harness plag attached if that will help.

Default Still need help with this

Still need help with a universal defrost timer
Hopefully, someone has a wiring diagram for a Kitchenaid KTRS20KXWH20 and cantell me how to wire this unit.

PartsPros says that the wharehouse should have the original part and that the universal item was a mistake.

This link will take you to the wiring diagram and schematic. It shows the timer motor wires being attached to # 2 and #3, which is pink and red on your harness. I'm going to say your deep pink is the red.

The part number you got does appear to be the right one. What they're asking you do is not unheard of, manufacturers do make subs to make one part fit many model set ups. If all else fails after you look at the schematic, you can always break off the plastic around the terminals on your old timer and see what leads on the harness are feeding the motor inside the timer.
