The freezer maintains zero temp, however, in the last 2 weeks the middle shelf seems to self defrost along with the coil in the left rear of the cabinet. The top and bottom shelfs both have ice build up on them and we manually have been defrosting the freezer approx every 6 months. The middle shelf has not ice building up on it and the coil running up the left corner only has spots of ice buildup.

Is this a problem and is it correctable? Serial number WB91806675 mfg date 5-99.

How high is the outside temperature?

How often do you open the freezer door?

How good is the door sealing?

Outside temp has been up to 75-80 the last few weeks.
Open the freezer 1-2 times per day.
Door seal is clean and appears to be tight.
I have a thermometer inside the freezer and it stays at 0 temp.
Could it be losing freon?

The shelves in your freezer are actually the evaporator coils. The picture you described can be a sign of the system slowly losing Freon.
