Just came back from a 2 weeks vacation. Last night it seemed the water pump sounded OK while pushing onto the water dispenser but of course with water barely trickling down. I tried this morning, no water tickles down and I can't hear the pump working either.

I turned off the freezer for a couple hours and used a hair dryer to warm up the water dispenser area from both front and back door. No improvement was detected.

Any suggestion what to do?

Model: GE TPS24BPDABS

There are a few things that may cause this.

  • Sometimes the water reservoir inside the fresh food section (behind the vegetable bins) will freeze especially if the refrigerator stays off for long periods of time, which can happen if no one is opening and closing the doors. Remove the vegetable bins and use your hair dryer on the reservoir.
  • Make sure you have good water pressure coming to the refrigerator.
  • If you haven’t changed the water filter recently replace it and it may fix your problem.
  • If none of these are your problem the water valve is most likely the problem.

I installed a brand new filter and that did not make a difference. Note that it gets filled with water after installing it

This fridge is sie by side, so do you mean the water reservoir is behind the fresh food bins toward the back of the fridge or to the side toward the freezer section?

The parts guide for this fridge mentions 2 valves AP2071735
AP2071736 . Which one could be the culprit?

I will follow the steps noted in the guide which also mentions the possiblity of a bad control board.

Thx for your help

The water reservoir is in the fresh food section behind the vegetable bins. With you gone for a while I would look at this first.

Your refrigerator is too old for the main board.

Oh I didn’t think to ask if it will dispense ice or is it just the water that is not working?

No problem with the ice maker, it still dispenses ice.

Sorry I was out for a few days.

I turned off both fridge & freezer compartments and still teh dispencer does not work. I don't hear the hissing sound of the water dispencer anymore and it looks like it is dead.

Before I dig into the valve, Are there 2 valves for this fridge, one for freezer and one for fridge?

Please advice

Thx -

I pulled the kick plate off under the fridge door. Then I twisted off the coupling dnf long and behold no water came out when I pressed onto the water dispencer.
This leads to me to believe the water valve is bad.

I pulled the water valve out but I can't fingure out how to unscrew the water line coming out of the valve into the fridge. I read to unscrew the water line. I tried that but I can't seem to do it. I am not sure if I should unscrew all 6 screws on the plate instead

Please advise

Your valve has push in connections push in on the ring and the line should just pull straight out. One of those valves feeds the filter for the icemaker (the one with one outlet) and the water line. If the icemaker is working that valve is not bad. The other directs the water to either the icemaker or the water dispenser (the one with two outlets) that is the one you need to replace.
