GE frig water valve

Model Number: model 26 Brand: GE Age: Less than 1 year

I am trying to use a 1/4 compression nut with sleeve to insert to refrigerator connection only, the sleeve keeps getting in the way, if i take it out the hose will come right off. Manual says 1/4 compression nut and sleeve, doesnt mention size so i bought the same size as the connection.

The sleeve won't fit into the GE connector. Thanks in advance.
