Refrigerator & Freezer Repair

My Amana 20.2 (freezer on bottom) refrigerator makes a "clunking" noise when the compressor?? shuts down. The refrigerator and freezer are still keeping proper temperatures. Is the "clunking" noise an indication that the compressor is going bad? If so, at what point should I be looking for a new refrigerator?

It is unpredictable.
You will see it when the fridge would stop cooling, but it could last with this noise for as long as a few months.
