Is your refrigerator less than a year old?
If this is correct, don't do anything and call Frigidaire for service. Otherwise it can void the warranty. Gene. Ads By Google

Gene, I'm picking up the replacement defrost heater tomorrow (fortunately I bought a lifetime warranty, when I replaced the heater 5 years ago)
There is now a 2 tube heater available for my model. In your experience, is this a better option vs the single tube ? I've now replaced the heater twice in 9 years. |

Yes, the double tube kit is much better. It provides better defrost for shorter time.
Gene.

Apparently this is a common failure part. Last edited by ment2b : 09-24-2012 at 03:43 PM. |

Sorry for the delay, but the setting change helped with the cooling of the refrigerator section, and a thermometer did show temperatures in the correct range. I tried to tweak the settings a little bit, and that seemed to get the freezer operating very cold again. The dial thermostat control does not feel right for the freezer section, it does not rotate smoothly, like the one for the refrigerator section. So I am not sure that the setting is what the dial shows. The freezer section temperature is at -15, and seems to be running constantly.

What are the current temperature settings?
-15°F for the freezer is too low. The normal temperature us about 0°F. Gene.

Warmest for freezer, 4 for refrigerator. It was working okay for a few days, freezer was warmer with no frost, but started acting up again. The freezer tempearture knob is not easy to operate, takes a lot of force to turn either way.

Perhaps I should keep a replacement thermostat ready when I check? Are there two thermostats, one for the refrigerator section and one for the freezer section, with the capillary wires routed to different places? Part number comes up as Whirlpool 2198202, is that correct? Thanks for your help.

Took about an 1 1/2 hr to empty the freezer, disassemble all, defrost w/a hair dryer, install new heater, reassemble all and restock food. Thanks again for all your help!! |
