Default Icemaker leaked then froze
Model Number: GS6SHAXKQO1   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 1 - 5 years

On New Year's Eve the icemaker on our side-by-side fridge leaked and then froze solid. When we got home the next day there was water on the floor and the bottom of the freezer was a pond of ice. Luckily it did freeze and stopped the flow of water.

Local repair came today and said that the PC board emitter and receiver need replaced. Probably failed due to leaked water. Said that the water leaked due to a faulty dual water inlet valve. Also said we should replace the pin prick type water line with a soldered valve which will increase flow and reduce the # times the solenoid turns off/on. A repair company replaced an inlet valve 3 years ago on the same fridge.

Looks like I need to order the following unless there is a different problem that someone can diagnose.

(1) Dual Water Inlet Valve Part Number: AP3085178 made by WHIRLPOOL.
(1) Refrigerator p.C. Board kit - Kit includes emitter and receiver icemaker control. Part Number: AP3137510 Manufacturer's Number: 4389102 (2198585) made by WHIRLPOOL
