Model Number: ARS2665AB Brand: Amana Age: 5 - 10 years
HELP! Amana ARS2665AB Freezer part of side by side does not get cold enough anymore. Unit stopped making ice cubes a few days ago. Ice cream turns to mush after a few hours. Other items, like frozen meats, seem to stay frozen just fine. Not sure if unit is cooling, only not correctly, or if items frozen are frozen simply becuase of the insulation in the unit itself.
I done following: -vacuumed dust out of front panel (under doors), in condenser area, and inside of fan housing. -gradually turned up the temperature over a couple of days. Freezer stays around 15 - 20 degrees and fridge around 40 Condenser fan and freezer coil fan is running. The coils in the freezer itself if clear without ice or frost and it cold to the touch. What's next? Should I call a repair man or should I just back a new one. The unit is about 9 years old. Thanks for any help. Related Models |

In the cooling mode you should see a uniform light frost on the evaporator coil If you don't, you either have a refrigerant restriction or a leak.

Last night I turned the temp. control to 6 on both refrig & freezer. This morning the refrig. temp was 32 degrees and the freezer is at 16. I am going to turn the refrig temp back to 5 and turn up the freezer all the way up to 7. Both refrig and freezer are empty. If the refrig side temps are ok and the freezer side temps are not cold enough what should I do next?

The refrigerator temperature is totally dependent on the operation of the freezer (unless you have one of those "all refrig" units, or a double compressor system, such as Sub Zero). If the temps are too high, you either have a defrost problem, causing excessive icing in the freezer; low refrigerant caused by a leak in the sealed system; or some kind of air flow problem. Post your temps and report what you observe in the evaporator (a light frosting is normal--snow is not).
