My girlfriend's fridge fails to get cold enough in the freezer and fridge compartments. I removed the bottom panel in the freezer and found the coils iced over.

Once the ice defrosted I saw that the defrost heater coil had shattered. Bought a new one and put it in. Left it running for a few days and although the coils don't ice up the freezer/fridge still fails to get cold enough (about 10F above recommended safe temp).

Not sure if this is normal, but: While the coil closest to the door gets cold fairly quickly, the rear coil only appears to get cold due to the conduction of the cold from the front coil. i.e. the front coil gets cold from right to left (facing the fridge) where as the rear gets cold from left to right. Was kind of thinking that they should both chill at the same time. Further more the rear coil never seems to get as cold as the front coil.

The fan in the freezer appears to be working fine. Any ideas?

Cheers,
Rich.
