I have a Frigidaire fridge (about 10 yrs old)someone took the relay/capacitor off so I replaced it with one I found in a scrap yard, but the ones I found are the older mechanical types. Should the older mechanicals work as well as the newer black and white deals with the capacitor that plugs in?
I get a loud buzz, but that just shuts off in a minute or less so I'm thinking the compressor is kapootsed or would it it require the newer type relay? I've even reversed the leads..No go.. any ideas?

Yes, your compressor is probably bad. Only way to be sure is to put the correct start device in, probably not worth spending the money.

That was my thought too.. I might hang on to it to see if I can find the right one, but if not I'll just strip it for parts.. Nice fridge otherwise.. kind of depressing. :/
