Question Water refilling ice or water dispenser=water spraying in fridge
Model Number: FRS6KR5JSB0   Brand: Frigidaire   Age: 1 - 5 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

I had a Frigidaire repairman take a look at our fridge because it didn't seem to be getting cold in the fridge, but made ice just fine. The water dispenser dispensed water although only cool.

He took the inside top control facing off and then took the slim panel on the top left of the fridge out to see if I am guessing some kind of control box out to see if a similar part would fit...it didn't so he reconnected the old one and replaced the pieces. He also took the Ice/Water panel off-the one on the freezer door, because although it made ice, it did not dispense ice nor did it work crushing the ice, but as I said dispensed water fine.

He then showed me the part that needs replacing, Pt. #241161903 Actuator-Ice Black. He replaced the panel.

That evening when I went to get a glass of water...nothing...tried again...nothing not a sound. Later that evening the ice dropped and refilled as usual...thought nothing of it.

Until later I came out to see a puddle of water below the refrigerator door...opened door, water flowing from below the vegetable drawer at the bottom of fridge...the ice maker had dropped ice previously...so it began to refill and I observed water being sprayed down the side of the fridge!!! What a mess! When I called him, he stated he didn't disconnect anything and that it probably froze up? It was working fine hours before when he was here.

Now, I am trying to figure out...what I can do to get it back the way it was. If a simple fix...why pay him?

Can anyone help?

Sounds like when your repairman took the "slim panel on the top left" off, he either didn't get the assembly back together correctly or he broke the linkage that operates the damper (AP3958400). You see, if the damper doesn't close correctly, the entire unit basically becomes a freezer because if the damper can't close when the temperature calls for it to, too much cold air enters the fresh food compartment and the water filter housing(part number AP3267542) and possibly the filter cup (part number AP3267541) will freeze and will crack the plastic, causing the water to spray in the refrigerator compartment everytime water is called for by either the water dispense or the icemaker. Also there is a water tank (part number AP4032984) in the bottom of the fresh food compartment behind the crisper drawers which is in danger of freezing and bursting. Do not replace the water carrying parts until you correct the damper issue or they will freeze again and possibly leak again. I certainly hope this helps! =]

Default Frigidaire FRS6KR5JSBO

That makes a lot of sense.

We ordered the hinge bearing for that refrigerator door and installed it on Saturday. The fridge side is cold not.

We did have "some" items that froze, but I don't know if it was because to compensate for lack of the cooling, we increased the freezer temp setting.

We tested the water again after we installed the door hinge. I wanted to see exactly where it was leaking from.

It was on the right side of the fridge, it looked like the "filter" in the upper right corner.

We tried to get the "cup" off to check the water filter, but it is WAY too tight. There was no water observed leaking from anywhere else.

So then, would it be logical to say it is the water filter? I was also thinking because he took that front panel off, the one where you get the ice/water from...that the connection to that was unconnected somehow. Especially since the leaking happens whenever the ice refills or the water is pressed.

Next...how can we confront him on what was done? He told me what parts to order...the ice actuator, control-defrost, with this issue now it sounds like we will have to purchase other parts.

He is a retired service repair man with 25yrs. in the business...but from his trouble shooting, he never said "it's this or that" definitely.

I guess we should just contact the Sears service center, but then again, they themselves use "contractors" so right back in the same boat we go.
