Gene,

The icemaker in my KitchenAid top-mount freezer began to work sproadically at about the same time a really bad odor permiated the machine. I could get the icemaker to run a few cysles by moving the shutoff arm, but the icemaker finally went totally dead. I pulled the Optimice part off so I could do an electrical diagnosis and the icemaker ran several cycles then quit. I am inclined to replace the entire icemaker but I notice that the generic unit sold by you do not have the Optimice option. Since we never used the Optimice, we don't care but I want to make sure the generic version will run in my unit.

Thanks for any advice!

This is the ice maker I come up with when I look up your model number.
It would fine in your refrigerator. Is it the same one that you are calling a generic ice maker?

Yep, that's it. I have been wrestling over whether to test out and replace the control module only if needed, or get the whole unit.

As a servicer I always replace the ice maker unit instead of just replacing parts of the ice maker. As a home owner you may want to take the chance and try repairing the ice maker. If it was my own I would still just replace the whole unit and be done with it.

Just my 2 cents...

Thanks, AJ. Santa brought me a Fluke mutlimeter for Christmas and I am looking for something broke to fix. But my better judgment sides with you to get the whole unit. That doesn't mean I can't do a little surgery in the meantime!
