Model Number: 253 or 970 Brand: Kenmore Age: 1 - 5 years
Our Kenmore Refrigerator is leaking water from the Cold Control Defrost Timer/Automatic Defrost Control Housing. I have adjusted the temperature in both the freezer and fridge but it is still occurring. Any suggestions?

Pull freezer back panel. You will find the drain frozen. I use a turkey baster and hot water to fix this, I also wrap a heavy gauge wire around the defrost heater and down the drain to fix this.

I have been having this same problem with our 6 year old Kenmore Top Mount. I have had repairmen out twice. Both times there was a solid layer of ice in the defrost drain pan. Both times they pour hot water down the drain line (?) to clear it out - apparently something had gotten in and clogged it?? This time around I shut the refrigerator off and defrosted it. I took off the back panel inside the freezer and found the drain hole. The last repairman left a piece of aluminum wire in the drain hole - to prevent future clogs, I think. Anyway, why does the drain hole keep freezing up?? The last occurence was just about a year ago. |
