Refrigerator & Freezer Repair

I replaced the start relay / overload last week purchaced from APP. Compressor started up fine and began to cool, I put a bottle of water in the Freezer....froze in a reasonable time.
When checking the compressor compartment,the compressor was to hot to even touch.And was off. The condensor fan was running. I wasn't sure if the compressor was out on internal overload.
I unplugged the Frig.

? Does the compressor run that hot? Does the condensor fan run continually or cycle with rising head presure??

The fan only runs when the comp. is running. Do you have the cardboard cover in place??? It MUST be installed!!!!! The comp. runs VERY HOT, You cannot hold your hand on it!!!!!

Thanks...DRAGS,I will secure the cardboard backing and plug it in back in.
