Default compressor hard start
Model Number: ARS2663AW   Brand: Amana   Age: More than 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

amana refrigerator model ARS2663AW (PARS2663AWD). replaced combo relay/overload device part number AP4369220 still having intermident hard start, works on second attempt. is it possible to add capacitor part number AP4074064 to combo start device for greater starting torque. or is there a 3/1 hard start device, such as part number AP4503415 that might be a better attempt at a solution. compressor when running runs cool, do not belive it is overheating. parts box for combo had W10189190 on box. Thanks!!

Measure the freezer temperature and post, the compressor should be warm, and the condensing coils warm if compressor is running.
You have an R134A compressor in this that will eventually burn out if you use the 3 n 1 hard start device.

Default hard start compressor

the frezer temperature is 12 deg. with temperature control set at 4. the refrigator temperature at mid. height is 34 deg. with temperature control set between 4 and 5. the evaporator coil fan is running, when compressor is running. the compressor runs warm. is capacitor part number AP4074064 pluged into combo start device (thin slots unlabled) a possibleity. Thanks!!!

Yes the run capacitor plugs into the narrow slots in the start device. You might have a bad cold control in this. Set the cold control to the lowest temperature setting and after a period of time, measure the freezer temperature, should be below zero and the fridg should run all the time.

Default compressor hard start

daughter called back and stated that frezzer temperature was at 0 degrees when she checked after one hour.. first time we waited only about ten minutes to take reading. would like to try to add a capacitor on combo start device. wiring diagram shows start capacitor used on some refiigerators, but this refigerator did not have one, (no gray wire). Thanks!!!

No modern refrigerator uses a start capacitor, most use a run capacitor.
If you are still having starting problems, only safe fix for this is using a start ptc device with a lower resistance. Using a start capacitor will lead to eventual compressor failure. The new R134A compressors will burn out due to the uncontrolled, high inrush current they provide.
