I just pickedup a kenmore upright 5 cu foot freezer from a friend and while transporting it a small copper tube (?) broke off the bottom of the unit and coolant all came out. Dont have the money to replace unit. Can I sotter the tube back on and re fill the coolant? Does anyone know how to fix at home?? Thanks

Two things, was the compressor running with busted tubing and which line was busted, the 5/16 line or the thin 1/4 inch line under the fridg.

It wasnt even plugged in...I was moving it! The copper tube was a tiny little 4 inch long tube that was crimped and inch from the end and sottered closed and attached to a nub on the other side that rn to the compressor. Think it was the fill line?????

You will need to fix the leak, put a service valve on the 5/16 tubing and suck the system down with a vacumm pump, then re-charge with R148A refrigerant. Usually this will work, unless a lot of compressor oil spilled out, but skipping the vacumm is not a good idea.
