The freezer is getting too cold and freezing ice cream. The drain is stopped up for sure, but could that cause the freezer to get that cold? Any ideas would help.

No, the drain wouldn't cause that. Will your compressor cut off as you turn the freezer temp control to the warm setting? If not, you need a new thermostat(cold control).
