Smile Freezer Temp Irratic. Refer temp OK
Model Number: 363.50622000   Brand: Kenmore   Age: 5 - 10 years

SYMPTOM: Discovered side-by-side freezer water on floor & food thawed.
ACTION: Raised Freezer Temp setting to maximum and freezer no longer thaws.
INVESTIGATION: Set Freezer Temp back to nominal and added a remote thermometer to obtain resulting operating temp range. At normal setting, freezer temp ranges between -15F<-->20F; Refrigerator ranges looks OK at between 36F<-->38F.

QUESTION: What might cause the large Freezer variation. I expect maybe +/- 5F variation.

Thanks :-)

Suspect if you didn't adjust the cold control it would have stayed inoperative.
When it failed, what was running/not running? If not running, the defrost control was jammed, or the cold control stuck.
I would spray both the defrost timer and cold control with a non-residue spray and turn/rotate to clear any contamination.

I'll give your suggestions a try. Hopefully I can locate the controls you mentioned. THANKS!

As for the exact symptoms when the failure occured, I was on vacation at the time and my son was the one who turned up the Freezer temp setting. Therefore I can't say if the refer was running or not running :-(
