Freezer and refrigerator not staying cold.

I have replaced the starter and overload relay for the third time(every three years).

The compressor and fan will turn on and seems to be working fine, cycling at what seems to be normal, but between 12 to 24 hrs it stops cycling and the freezer and refrigerator become warm.

I have also turned the refrigerator thermostat up from a setting of three to four and half. Doesn't seem to have helped.

I also have opened the doors(both) and the compressor and fan would turn on sometimes.

The compressor seems to stay on for too long, and then not turn back on far a long time?

Thanks for any advice or help.

Your evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes.

If the defrost thermostat doesn't work correctly the heater can overheat and cause the unit to warm up.

If the defrost timer is working intermittitly, the unit can be stuck in the defrost cycle. You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

If the heater doesn't work the evaporator can ice up so much that the air flow is blocked and won't cool properly.

Part 6 is your timer. KENMORE | Model #10650562991 | SIDE-BY-SIDE REFRIGERATOR | CONTROL | SearsPartsDirect.com
