Model Number: JCD2389GE Brand: Jenn-Air Age: 5 - 10 years
During power outage noticed water leaking from freezer. Water found in bottom compartment beelow basket. Power restored after 12 hours and still some water leaking after 24 hrs of power. Found water/ice in bottom again after 24 hrs. defrost coil? above botom compartment seems fine, there is some ice build up below aluminum plate that is behind the vent holes below the coil. What needs to be replaced and is it possible to do ourselves???

Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little air pressure will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help. Make sure it drains quick enough. The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the lower back of the freezer

The water should drain more or less immediately. If it sits there and the drain pan surface is super cold it could freeze in minutes.
Access to the pan underneath is from the back. You remove the cardboard cover. If needs to be emptied, use a large sponge. Under normal conditions it won't overflow because the condenser fan will evaporate the water. A stopped up water filter can cause more water to go to the pan. |
