I have a GE side-by-side refigerator/freezer that is leaking water on floor under the freezer door. It looks like the water is coming from the ice maker which overflows to ice tray. How can I stop this?

There are a few things that can cause this.

  • The water valve can be sticking causing water to run even after the icemaker stops calling for water.
  • The tube that enters the back of the freezer that feeds water to the icemaker could be stopped up with ice. This will cause water to spray everywhere except in the icemaker. If this is the case replace the water valve.
  • Sometimes the water will enter the icemaker too fast and overfill the first cube mold before the water has a chance to run to the other end of the icemaker. This would only be a small leak and yours sounds like a big leak but if you suspect this is your problem this page will tell you how to fix it
