Model Number: tfx22prxdww Brand: GE Age: More than 10 years
GE side by side, manfactured 11/96 (I know sheesh, buy a new one). I did. Anyway, Evap coils iced 2 yrs ago and I paid 400 for a tech. to replace the defrost elements....everything was fine. Now...same problem...freezer thaw and iced coils. I again replaced the defrost elements..& thermostat......checked the defrost timer by manually turning it..working fine...it stops by auto time too. Manually de-iced all the evap. coils w/ a hair dryer....3x now. Freezer will still not blow cold air and the bottom six or so evap. coils ice almost immediately. Each n every time. Upper evap coils dont seem to be getting cold at all, just the bottom six that ice up.

Sounds like there is a problem with the sealed system. It can be a restriction in the sealed system or it can be low on Freon. It has to be diagnosed by a certified refrigeration tech.
