Disconnecting and taking out Ice maker from freezer will this cause an issue? Ice maker has never been used and not water hoooked up to it.

Hi,

Disconnecting and taking out Ice maker from freezer will not effect how your refrigerator works.

May I ask why you want to remove it?

It just gives me more room in the fridge since its not used. My fridge is not cooling up top i have to defrost fins to get it to cool again. Ive had to do this 2 times already. hoping that removing the ice maker wasn't causing this issue even though i took it out after this occured. do you have an idea of what it could be?

Sounds like you may have a defrost problem. Your refrigerator is a self defrosting model and should defrost itself so you don't have to.

The ice maker has nothing to do with the defrost system on this model refrigerator.

The defrost system on your model is run by the control board.
WHIRLPOOL Cntrl - Elec, part number: AP4366538

The control board turns on the defrost heater in the freezer.
WHIRLPOOL Heater, Evaporator, part number: AP4078863

Once the frost has been melted the defrost thermostat/Bi metal kills power to the heating element.
WHIRLPOOL Bimetl - Def, part number: AP4310486

I had this issue when i first got the unit. the Jazz board and thermostat were replaced. is the Jazz board the contrl board? is this simple to replace? Once i defrost the fins the fridge works good untill about a montg later when i have to do this again.

Yes it is the same board.

I have no idea how handy you are, but I feel it's a fairly simple part to replace.
