On my Admiral refrigerator bought at montgomery wards, aprx 1993. freezer on top. the freezer pan, which ill call it is melting. No one can find my model listed anywhere. Im in the a/c repair field, so ill assume theres a defrost heater staying on too long. Is this a common problem? is there an easy fix, or is it time to scrap it? It looks like new, and works great. Being in my elderly mothers home, is this a dangerous situation until the problem is corrected?

The defrost thermostat, which is clamped to the evaporator coil, may have failed. It cuts the heater off(opens the circuit) when it reaches a preset temp to prevent overheating by the heater and turns the heater on(closes the circuit) when it gets cold again.
