I have a Kemore model 596.73219200 freezer. My freezer keeps freezing up and I have to defrost about one every two weeks. When I take the back panel off it is frozen solid and is one big chunk of ice. I checked the freezer door seal and it does not seem to be crack and it looks like it seals well.

I have not been able to find a repair manual for this model freezer so I am not even able to locate the defrost timer to test it. The research I have done online says I should test that first.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat

Refrigerator Repair Guide: How To Fix a Refrigerator - ACME HOW TO.com

Your evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

Part 12 on this diagram is your timer. >http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getSubComp.pd?modelNumber=59673219200&productCategoryId=0161000&brandId=0582&modelName=KENMORE-REFRIGERATION&diagramPageId=00003&componentDescription=CONTROLS&documentId=M0703007&backToLink=Return%20to%20Sub%20Components%20list
