Default Compressor not running
Model Number: KTRS25KAAL00   Brand: Kitchen Aid   Age: 5 - 10 years

I noticed things melting in the freezer. The lights were on and the fan was running but I couldn't hear any other motors running. When I tried to pull it out from the wall it took some jerking to get it to move. When it was only a few inches out I hear a fan start running but making a loud clicking noise. I'm guessing it's the compressor fan.

Could this fan motor be the problem it's not cooling? If not, any ideas? Thank you.

you are referring to the condensor fan motor.it purpose is to draw heat away from the compressor. the compressor will overheat and shut down otherwise. check to see if th fan blade is hitting the shroud ,or a foreign object is preventing blade from turning .,possibly fan motor is failing .if so replace it .if nothing else is amiss it should return to normal, seasons greetings to you

Thank you! It seems the fan blades were bent out somehow and at least one was hitting the shroud. I bent them back and the noise stopped. The fan seems to be running fine. I'm now hoping the frig will cool again.

Thank you again. If it works Christmas will be saved!

Now I'm worried. I went to check if I could hear the compressor running but didn't. I listened closely but heard nothing then I heard a click, like it was trying to turn on, then a hum, then a click again and the hum stopped. I've always been able to hear the compressor when it's running so something tells me there's still something wrong.

You probably have a bad start relay on the side of the compressor, just pull it out and see if it rattles, if so, order a new one. If overload and relay in one package, make sure you get the original factory part!!
