My side-by-side refrigerator is still in good shape but lately the ice dispenser door isn't closing completely and then ice is melting and dripping into the dispenser tray and ultimately creating a mess. I've seen on the site two possible parts to fix this - one is just a new spring, and another is an entire new ice door kit. I'm not clear on what part I need to purchase to fix my problem. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Remove the dispenser cover by gently prying going round and round a little at a time to prevent from breaking it. When it's off the screws will be exposed to access the other components.

Inspect the parts to determine what is causing your problem.

Thanks for the advice woodchuckie. I took the cover and the electrical panel off and low and behold, the spring isn't the problem at all. If I remove the "mechanism delay" (what looks like a little piston) then things close with no problem. Is this a necessary part? In other words, do I need the delayed ice door closing? If so, this part is only available in the door kit, so that answered the question of what I need to purchase.

You do need the delayed door closing so the ice won't be trapped in the door when it closes.

That makes perfect sense. Its too bad that part isn't sold by itself, but it won't hurt to replace the assembly as a unit. Thanks again for the help,
