Default Freezer Thermostat or Adaptive Defrost Control??
Model Number: KSRB25FKSS01   Brand: Kitchen Aid   Age: 5 - 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com
I have the following problem.

The freezer will not Stay cold. It will get cold, but then warms up. The refrigerator follows. Eventually, it cools again, but I am not sure of the interval. I’ve only been keeping detailed records for the last 16 hours.

Here as plot of temperature over time.

Time Freezer Temp(F) Fridge Temp(F)
Midnight 0 37
8:00 am 32 42
11:00am 37 45
1:00pm 40 48

at 2:00pm I moved the freezer temp control all the way to the right(coldest). I heard the compressor come on and the freezer started to cool.

3:00pm 16 (falling) 47

Over the last 16 hours the freezer has ranged from -8 to 46 deg F.

I replaced the Start-Device (2212194) before these measurements were taken. Behavior seem the same as before the starter was replaced.

Is it the Freezer Thermostat or The control unit or something else? How can I tell? What measurements can I make?

I have the wiring diagram but am not sure were to start or what to look for.

I the time It has taken me to type, the Freezer temp has fallen to 12 deg F.

Thanks in Advance.
Paul

denman is just really nice
Default

Is it the Freezer Thermostat or The control unit or something else?
I would go with the Freezer Thermostat. Since moving this control got the unit going it sounds like it is sticking open.

Here is the wiring diagram
https://www.servicematters.com/docs/...%202220107.pdf

How can I tell? What measurements can I make?

You could measure across it, pull it then measure across the contacts using ohms. Warm up the end of the capillary tubing and the contacts should close. Stick it in a glass of ice and they should open. Note this depends on where you have the temperature set.

Problem is sometimes they test just fine and then you put it back in and it starts to act up again.

Thank You Denman.

I replace the Freezer thermostat 2 weeks ago. So far so good. The Freezer never goes above +20 (defrost cycle) and usually hangs around 0.

$50 vs $1500(new fridge). Nice. Thanks Again.
