Model Number: 106.8652781 Brand: Kenmore Age: More than 10 years
Old Kenmore top bottom fridge. Compressor does not run until I slap my hand on the bottom of the top freezer. Gets cold then warms up again. Symptoms seem to point to a bad defrost timer. Can someone tell where the part is located on this model?

Here are your parts
Replacement parts for KENMORE 1068652781 | AppliancePartsPros.com The defrost timer is in the control console at the top in the fresh food section. Sounds more like a control thermostat problem than a defrost problem. Next time it happens jiggle the temperature control back and forth a little if it fires up I would replace the thermostat. Part number: AP3120051

Thanks for the quick reply. Need further clarification. there are 2 controls. A cold control and a usage control. Is the the cold control that is the thermostat? Of course it is still running now and I can't try the moving the thermostat.

If you go to the Sears parts site they will have parts breakdowns.
I do not know what they call the controls but it is the one on the left. The other one opens/closes a damper which regulates the amount of cold air entering the fresh food compartment.

The cold control is on the left so that for sure must be the thermostat. The fridge was warm again this morning. I turned the control a little to the left and right and the compressor started up. As soon as I figure out how to take the control panel off, get to that part, and see how to replace it I will order it. Thanks again

Ordered the thermostat and it arrived yesterday and I installed it. Took only one day to get it even with the standard shipping from Appliance pro. Installed it when I got it. It has been working for 24 hours so I assume it is fixed. Thanks a lot. I will not hesitate to use or recommend you guys in the future.
