Default ice build up in freezer
Model Number: JCD2290HES   Brand: Jenn-Air   Age: 1 - 5 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com
I have ice build up that looks like a frozen waterfall in the back of the freezer below the ice maker. It appears to come from the vents below the ice maker from behind the back wall and on the back sides where the back and sidewalls meet. It does not appear to be the icemaker itself that is the problem but perhaps the icemaker is leaking behind the back panel? Any ideas as to the cause?

It could be either an overfilling of the icemaker; or perhaps a frozen or blocked evaporator drain; It could also be the fill tube for the icemaker is displaced or broken.

You can test to see a fill cycle by first defrosting the freezer. (You can speed up the defrosting by using a hair dryer; just don't apply the heat in one spot too long.[It's easy to melt the plastic components and liners]).

Make sure there is no water in the icemaker mold.

Once the freezer is defrosted, pull the front cover off the icemaker. You'll see a number of test holes, each marked with a letter. Make a jumper (Make sure it's insulated in the center, with about a half inch of exposed wire on each end) between the holes marked, "L" and "V". Maintain this contact for approximately 5 to 7 seconds and remove the jumper.

If water continues to flow in after the jumper is removed, replace your water inlet valve.

If there is another source of the water leak, it should be fairly obvious.

If the water stops when you remove the jumper; and you don't see an obvious leak around the fill tube at the rear of the icemaker, you might have a clogged evaporator drain.
