I have had to replace the evaporator motor 3 times in this refrigerator. The motor seems to work fine for a few months and then there is a large amount of frost that builds up in the freezer. Then the fan makes a terrible sound and then eventually dies. Obviously something else is wrong with the refrigerator that keeps killing the fan but I don't want to drop tons of money to find out what part. Could I need to replace the mother board as well? Nothing else is wrong with the refrigerator.

My guess is the defrost system isn't working and the ice on the evaporator coil builds up eventually interfering with the fan thus the noise. Have you tested the fan to see if it is bad each time. Are the coils iced up when you take the cover off to the replace the fan. If so check defrost heater, defrost thermostat. Refrigerator Repair Guide: How To Fix a Refrigerator - ACME HOW TO.com

If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the motherboard. Part 801 on diagram 8.Replacement parts for GE GTS22KBMARCC | AppliancePartsPros.com
