GE Side by Side works perfectly for a month or so, then slows down on making ice and gradually warms up over a period of a couple of weeks until it finally gets too warm..
Unplug it for a week..... plug it back in and I'm good for a month or so before it starts that again. I did notice this time that it is very frosted up in the back of the freezer.. and now I can't feel any air coming through the vent into the frige side... Freezer side is about 28f

{[UPDATE]} I checked into it and found a bad defrost heater. I noticed there are two numbers; the original and a dual element version. Which does the Old Pro use, and why?

Also, should I be testing anything else? Did something cause or contribute to this failure?


At four years old is this typical or premature?..

So one new question, where do I get it?

And I'm not certain whether you answered my two previous questions by your identification of the heater part number and by not mentioning any other related parts to test or buy. Gives me the impression that the defrost heater failure at 4 years might not be unusual. <I like these little icons. Does anyone think they will take the place of punctuation in the future? I assume that if the part number begins with AP it is Appliance Parts number. Think I saw AP on the big online auction. Is that where I buy it>> <<See what I mean about the little faces?
