This S/S refrigerator is leaking water near the defront tray area. The tray has 1/8 of water in it, but there is water beneath it on the kitchen floor. The rear fan is on and I don't see any water leaking from the ice/water lines going into the door. Can't figure out where the water is coming from. The leak takes place every few weeks, so I thought the defrost cycle was overlowing the tray, but the tray is almost dry with the fan running to evap. the water. The drain inside the freezer is clear and looks to be functioning to drain into the pan below. The yellow pad beneath the pan is dry. Where is the water from?

Hey, good luck with your problem! I have a 4 month old refer that is doing the same thing: took the Whirlpool Technician 2 weeks to come out, in the meantime, the hardwood floor under the refer got thrashed. The guy found a plug on the end of the drain hose, removed it and left. Two weeks later, it started leaking again and I was told it was an 'ice plug' - followed his advice about completely defrosting the appliance and now, it's leaking again Guess I have to face the fact that mine is a lemon so I'll just have to have the store personnel come out and take it back. I'm going to check this thread to find out if anyone has a solution . . . just because I want to know! Shortie

You have a removable drip tray behind the front kick panel. Remove it and check for a crack. If so, you can patch it with silicone cement.

How do you gain access to take the defrost pan out? The front has a few lines in the way. Or is there access from the back side. There is a metal support under the plastic tray. Is that the way to take it out for leaks? Thanks.

Default Missing parts and tray removal

I resorted to putting a pan with newspaper to catch the runoff for quite some time. Now it is time to put this issue to bed.

Once I heard the system self-defrosting and decided to peek with a flashlight. I found that the melted ice water was only partially going into the pan. Some of the liquid was hitting the lip of it and some not at all, directly onto the wood.

I also noticed that my unit does not have a hose shown on the diagram, #18 and #19 that leads the water, likely into the center of the tray.

Looks like the factory saw this as a problem and retrofitted to newer than mine models. Wish they would have sent out the parts to people that bought their earlier units.

I am going to order the parts and somehow refit the pieces from the back as there is no room from the front. Hope the tray is not what has a leak in it.. Still can't figure out how to take that tray out to check. Anyone?
