Model Number: ksrg25fkss15 Brand: Kitchen Aid Age: 5 - 10 years
my side by side frig/freezer quit cooling. lights and fans work fine. replaced combo start device and capacitor. that didn't change anything. it makes a click noise and sort of hum for a few secs then nothing then repeats the click and hum. compressor stays room temp. there was a sheet of ice on the inside wall of freezer when it first quit working. (maybe in front of evap coils?) what should i check next? please help!

thanks for the reply!!! i just unplugged the old device and plugged the new one in so i'm pretty sure i did it right. i put a meter on the comp probes. they are configurerd in an upside down triangle. across top is 8.4. top right to bottom is 6.0. top left to bottom is 2.9. does this tell you the comp is bad?

Compressor winding resistance only confirms they are not blown open. If the compressor is drawing excessive current, only way to coinfirm is with an amprobe.

hey richappy! so can i test for excessive current draw with my a multimeter? i'm a novice at this(as u can probably tell!). if so, how do i do it? also, before my frig quit i was having trouble with my icemaker overflowing water. it would just do it every now and then(but it would run water into the freezer and out of the icemaker into the floor!) and would quit overflowing by itself then happen again in a month or two. could this be related to the non-cooling problem? maybe the control board? ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!

You can buy a .1 ohm resistor at Radio Shack if they have one, wire it in series with compressor oveload device. then measure the voltage across it, you have a few seconds of measurement time before the overload klixon clicks off. Three volts would be thirty amp.
Your icemaker might be stalling during water fill, or the water solenoid in the back might me intermittent.
