Model Number: TL20NL Brand: Amana Age: More than 10 years
The refrigerator / freezer works great, but a reoccurring problem for years is the defrost drain hole from the freezer to the refrigerator freezes up a few times a year (or more). This causes a water backup which eventually it "rains" in the refrigerator. I found part AP118347 on your site "Drain Tube Freeze Up Kit" which I assume was an add on from the mfgr to deal with this issue. How does it install, does it come with detail instructions for installation into a unit that doesn't already have the wiring in place, etc. I think the settings in the freezer & frig are correct as I don't have ice in the milk and the ice cream is hard. The seals around the doors all look good. I don't have moisture around the door openings, etc. Can you help?

This is a very common problem with Amana top & bottom refrigerators and this kit works good. Honestly I do not remember the installation process (last time I did it was a few years ago) and I'm not sure about the installation instructions. You can call the APP (877-477-7278) and they will find it for you.
Gene.

Great help and advice! I have the same problem but do not know how to remove the freezer 'floor' tray. I removed the freezer rear panel to expose the evaporator but could not access the drain. I can't find any detailed diagrams on this old model. Any suggestions?

Wow, I did not expect such a rapid response!
Model is TL20NL, Manufacturing # is P1106213WL. As I mentioned previously, I opened the rear of the freezer but could not access any drain. Thanks again for such a quick reply! |

Locate the drip tray (#26 on the break down diagram) under the evaporator coil. The drain hole is in the center of the tray.
Use a hair dryer to defrost it. You can install the drain tube freeze up kit (#20 on the break down diagram) to prevent future freezing. Here are the break down diagrams for the Amana refrigerator Model TL20N Gene.

Gene,
I have an Amana BX21V bottom freezer and it sounds like I have the same issue. When I removed the rear panel in the freezer, the coils were completely frozen. I defrosted it several times and it keeps occuring. Would the Drain Tube Freeze Up Kit (AP118347) also work for me. Thanks |

Perform the troubleshooting as described in one of our previous posts: Freezer is fine, refrigerator is too warm. The defrost timer is shown as #342 on the diagram. The model number you posted is incomplete. Verify and repost it. Gene.
