I purchased the adaptive defrost board sometime around 2008. The part was

AP3160614** ** ** (61005988) Adaptive defrost** ** **

It has worked nicely during this time. But the defrost is not working again as of a week ago.

The**fans and**coils are working properly.
The heater resistance reads ~ 30 ohms and the thermostate resistance (room temperature) reads maybe 15000 Ohms.
**
I just want to get your read before I order the board again.

Is this board destined to fail in this short time, ~ 3 years?

The defrost thermostat should read 0 ohms when it is frozen.
Note: it opens just above freezing.

Ok will check after today's manual defrost. Any feedback on the board failing, e.g. only 3 years old whereas the stock board failed after 8 years.

thanks,Q

Cannot comment on the life of the board.

Many units with electronic parts can fail for a number of different reasons.
Often it is due to voltage spikes on the line Power outages etc.

Are you sure on the resistances? I'm searching and find conflicting values. One says open at cold temp and 240 ohms at warm. Other says closed ( zero ohms) at feezer temp.

See
Appliance Tech\'s Private Board >> Jenn Air Side by Side - JCD2389GES

And

http://www.fixya.com/support/t3...er_fridg_freezer_ices_up

I have the part freezing. I spliced into the thermostat directly so I'm reading just it's resistance. It's definitely open (infinite res) at cold temps. As I warm it in my hand the resistance changes to about 30000 ohms.

I'm more inclined to the first link which corroborates your measure. That is should have zero resistance at cold temp

Right?

Thanks. Q

What is the model number?
I will try to find a wiring diagram for it.

I have never seen one that opens (infinite ohms) when frozen.
They are wired in series with the heater so must be closed (0 ohms) for the heater to come on during defrost.

I have seen some that do not go to infinite ohms when open.
They usually have around a 200,000 ohm reading.
This prevents the element from heating but is used by the defrost board to monitor the voltage to the heating element.

I think you are correct. I just tested and initially had continuity then as it warmed I heard an audible click then high resistance. I tested an hour later and it was open. So it must be intermittent.

Here is the model. Do you know of a thermostat I could purchase to wire in since the heater is fine? Thanks again.

Appliance Type: REFRIGERATOR

Model Number:**JCD2389GES

Serial Number: 10657077Z

Sorry I do not know of a defrost thermostat that would be a direct replacement.
